Around the branch in December

Here’s news of some of what’s happening in and around our branch area over the next few weeks.

Monthly Meetings.

Our December monthly meeting will be at the Castle Inn on Castle Street from 8pm on Tuesday 10 December. Our monthly meetings, on the second Tuesday of the month, are open to all branch members. Feel free to attend, hear what’s going on and have a chat over a beer or two. January’s meeting will be at the Green Dragon on Water Street, Chesterton.

Good Beer Guide.

Many thanks to all the branch members who nominated the pubs they thought should be considered for inclusion in CAMRA’s 2021 Good Beer Guide. We have used those nominations and members’ beer scores to draw up a shortlist of 56 pubs. We are now asking you to choose which pubs should be our 26 entries in the Guide. Please look at the shortlist and assess all the pubs on it that you have visited in the last six months. You can do this online (revisable) or in person at monthly meetings, on February’s Strolling Social or at our AGM (18 February) when marking closes.

Coach Trip to Breweries in the Bungay area.

On Saturday 14 December, instead of a Strolling Social, we’ll be having a coach trip to some of the breweries in the Bungay area. It will include at least 3 of these. Grain Brewery (coincides with their open day). St Peter’s Brewery. Green Dragon Brewery & Pub. Queens Head Waveney Brewery & Pub. The coach will leave Cambridge around 10:30 and return around 19:00. This trip is open to CAMRA members only and there will be a charge. For more details and to book your seat email Clive, our social secretary.

Pub News & Beer Scoring.

We’re always keen to receive news about our pubs, breweries and cider makers. If you have some, please email us. Members’ beer scores also help to keep us informed and influence our Good Beer Guide entry selection. It’s easy to do. It can be done using the Good Beer Guide app or via WhatPub, either from your phone while you are in the pub or from home afterwards. Please also use WhatPub to give us feedback on the pubs you visit, especially if you discover inaccuracies in the pub’s entry.
