Here’s news of some of what’s happening in and around our branch area over the next few weeks.
Our October monthly meeting will be at the Queen Edith, Wulfstan Way from 8pm on Tuesday 12 November. Our monthly meetings, on the second Tuesday of the month, are open to all branch members. Feel free to attend, hear what’s going on and have a chat over a beer or two. December’s meeting will be at the Castle Inn on Castle Street.
The October edition of our ALE magazine will be appearing in pubs soon. It has a picture of Caragh at the Three Horseshoes, Comberton on the front cover. You can also read it online.
Cambridge Beer Festival Winter
The biggest branch event this month is Cambridge Beer Festival Winter. It is taking place in the University Social Club on Mill Lane, 13-16 November. We’ll have around 80 real ales from 40 breweries, a range of draught international beers plus ciders, perries and apple juice. Food available.
Good Beer Guide
CAMRA’s 2020 Good Beer Guide has only been out a few weeks but we have already started thinking about the next edition. We are currently asking members to nominate pubs that they have visited this year that they think should be considered for the 2021 Guide. Pubs need multiple nominations to get on the short list so don’t hold back from nominating just because you think someone else will. You can nominate online (revisable), in person at monthly meetings or at our beer festival in November.
CAMRA pool team
Are you a CAMRA member who also enjoys playing pool? If so, would you like to play pool with a group of like-minded people and possibly forming a CAMRA team based at the NCI on Holland Street, Cambridge? CAMRA members Richard and Russell are hoping to get a group of members playing regularly together and then, if enough are interested, enter a CAMRA team to play in a local league. If you are interested, email Richard for more details.

Pub news and beer scoring
We’re always keen to receive news about our pubs, breweries and cider makers. If you have some, please email us. Members’ beer scores also help to keep us informed and influence our Good Beer Guide entry selection. It’s easy to do. It can be done using the Good Beer Guide app or via WhatPub, either from your phone while you are in the pub or from home afterwards. Please also use WhatPub to give us feedback on the pubs you visit, especially if you discover inaccuracies in the pub’s entry.
