Around the branch in January

Here is Ali’s monthly roundup of events around the branch.  If you are a branch member and do not get this by email, please check that we have your current email address.  You can do this via the national website, log in and then click on ‘edit your membership information’. If you get stuck, you can call the membership department on 01727 798440.

Here’s news of some of what’s happening in and around our branch area over the next few weeks.

Monthly meetings

Our January monthly meeting will be at the Carpenter’s Arms on Victoria Road from 8pm on Tuesday 8 January. Our monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of the month are open to all branch members. Feel free to attend, hear what’s going on and have a chat over a beer or two. February’s meeting will be at the Royal Standard on Mill Road.

Good Beer Guide

Our branch members are currently marking the pubs that made the shortlist to be our 26 entries in the 2020 Good Beer Guide. You can mark the shortlisted pubs that you have visited in the last six months. Marking can be done online or in person at a marking social, which will be in the Castle Inn on Castle Street on 9 February. If you mark online you can return and revise your marks as often as you like until marking closes on 10 February. Mark early, mark often.

Cambridge CAMRA coach tour

Our next coach tour will be on Saturday 19 January. It will leave from the Station Road / Tenison Road junction at 11am and will return there at around 7pm. On this tour we’ll be visiting some of the harder to reach pubs that have been shortlisted for the 2020 Good Beer Guide. Participants are expected to take part in the Guide entry selection process. We don’t charge for the tour but we do run a raffle (£5 a ticket) that contributes towards the cost of the coach. You will need to pay for the food, laid on by one of the pubs we visit, as well as for your drinks. This event is restricted to CAMRA members. For more details and to book your seat email our Social Secretary, Clive.

Pub news & beer scoring

We’re always keen to receive news about our pubs, breweries and cider makers. If you have some, please e-mail us. Members’ beer scores also help to keep us informed and influence our Good Beer Guide entry selection. It’s easy to do via WhatPub, either from your phone while you are in the pub or from home afterwards. Please also use WhatPub to give us feedback on the pubs you visit, especially if you discover inaccuracies in the pub’s entry.
