Cider Month – May 2018

Congratulations to The Plough, Shepreth for winning the branch award as Cider Pub of The Year 2018.  The Plough has a large selection of ciders available for its customers to sample – so what better time is there than cider month, to get down there and try them for yourself?  You will be pleased to find that the majority of ciders on offer come from the East Anglian region.  The Plough now goes forward to the County nominations – I am very hopeful that the Plough is capable of winning this award but the opposition is tough – time will tell if it receives enough votes to proceed through to the regional voting.

Around Cambridge we are incredibly fortunate to have some very talented cider makers at our disposal – the majority of whom, if not all, will be present at our annual beer and cider festival at the end of the month (Monday 21st May – Saturday 26th May).

Why is May designated as a CAMRA cider month?  It is the time when all the orchards begin to blossom and start the process of producing the fruit that will be harvested in the autumn months, it is also when the fruits of last year’s labour reach maturity and can start to be enjoyed.

More and more pubs are now stocking real ciders and this number is sure to increase during the summer months – get out and about and track some down – you know it makes sense!
