LocAle Campaign

Cambridge CAMRA launched its LocAle scheme two years ago and is one of over 50 CAMRA Branches to have done so. The scheme aims to encourage pubs to sell locally-brewed beers thus helping the local economy and cutting down on transport “beer miles”, as well as increasing customer access to excellent local ales.

We define a LocAle as one which is brewed in Cambridgeshire or within 12 miles of our Branch boundary (thus hooking in the likes of Buntingford and Potton). An increasing number of our pubs sell LocAles though, sadly, many are unable to do so because they're owned by a brewery or a pub company and can only access a limited range of beers through them.

Current known outlets for LocAles are as follows – but please note that many of these pubs ring the ale changes regularly so the beers shown may not be on at the time of your visit.

Cambridge: ADC Theatre Bar - Milton beers; Arts Picturehouse Bar – Usually has a LocAle (Moonshine or Milton); Bird (Milton); Cambridge Blue – at least one and often several LocAles; Cambridge Chop House – Milton; Cambridge City Football Club Bar – Milton; Carlton – often has a LocAle such as Oakham; Devonshire Arms – Milton (lots); Elm Tree – often has Milton, Lord Conrad and others; Emperor – Oakham JHB; Empress - Buntingford; Fountain – Oakham, City of Cambridge (brewed by Elgoods), Fellows; Hopbine – invariably has a LocAle (Fellows, Lord Conrad's, others); Kingston Arms – Elgoods Black Dog, Oakham JHB, often others; Live & Let Live – usually has an Oakham or other LocAle; Maypole – house beer from Buntingford and often has other beers from the same brewery plus Milton and Fellows; Mill – Fellows, Lord Conrad, Moonshine, Black Bar, Potton and City of Cambridge; St John's Chop House – Milton; St Radegund – Milton, Fellows; Salisbury Arms – Oakham JHB; Trinity Centre (Science Park) - Milton
