- J.D. Wetherspoons are applying to turn the former ABC cinema
into one of their giant real ale pubs.
- CAMRA campaigns coming up:
- 6-13 Sep., CAMRA Week of Action on Beer Duty
- 8 Nov., CAMRA's National Mild Day
- Oct.-Dec., CAMRA Recruitment Campaign
- The Branch and the new City of Cambridge Brewery
held a launch party on 2nd June at the brewery (Cheddar's Lane) to celebrate the opening of the first
brewery in Cambridge for 25 years and and the success of its first beer, Hobson's
Choice, the Champion Beer of the Beer Festival.
It's a superb, well-balanced bitter - 4.1% ABV.
There are no regular outlets as yet but The Cow and Calf and The Cambridge Blue
have it from time to time.
- The Branch Pub of the Year is The Fountain in Ely.
A report will appear in the
next edition of ALE.
- The City of Cambridge Brewery starts brewing on Monday 5th May.
Their first beer will be available at the Beer Festival.
- The Branch Committee was saddened by the sudden death of our Secretary, Peter
Brinton, on 23rd January. His calm efficiency and good humour will be much missed.
- Preparation for the 24th Cambridge Beer Festival is under way.
Can you help?
- The City of Cambridge Brewery is due to open in April,
based in Cheddars Lane.
- The Yorkshire Grey has changed hands and may soon stop being one of
the few City pubs without real ale.

will decide the final nominations for Good Beer Guide entries.
