I think it was Mark Twain who stated that reports of his death had been “greatly exaggerated” and I knew to an extent how he felt when I read in the last ALE that I was giving up the landlordship of the Queen's Head, Newton.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Robert, my younger son, is indeed joint licensee with me and together we run the pub as a partnership which I hope will continue for some years to come. This coming October we shall be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the family ownership of the Queen's Head.

I would be very grateful if you could put the record straight in the next edition of ALE, which is an excellent publication.

Best Wishes
David Short
(Whoops – many apologies, David – long may you continue to preside over this wonderful pub, one of a handful to have been in every edition of the Good Beer Guide - ed)
