A recent visit to the Milton Brewery instigated a quick pint in the Waggon and
Horses at Milton. This charming well-appointed pub is owned by Elgoods
Brewery and has been run by Nick and Mandy Winnington since 1999. Nick
was formerly at the Cambridge Blue where he once stood in a general
election for the Monster Raving Loony Party.
There are 4 well kept beers including at least 2 guest and seasonal ales and
good pub food is served between 12 and 2 and in the evening between 7 and
9. As opposed to a happy hour rather typically he has a grumpy hour. Nick is
famous for his hat collection which adorns the walls. On one of my previous
visits he disappeared heading for the bank in Cambridge only to return 10
minutes later as he had forgotten his hat, and feared the bank staff would not
recognise him. He serves Cassels cider, and even makes a small amount of
cider himself that has appeared at the Beer Festival and in his own pub. He is
also a strong and enthusiastic supporter of CAMRA.
There is ample parking and a pool table.
You are sure of a cheery welcome at the Waggon.
