100 Oxfordshire Greene King tenants are challenging GK over pricing, alleging they can't compete with GK managed houses, who can buy GK beer more cheaply. On the other hand, GK has been doing a lot of work to help its tenants get the new-style premises licences.
The first 24-hour premises licence has been granted: it's by the Corporation of the City of London to the Swan Tavern (Fullers), Gracechurch Street, in the heart of the City. The pub is weekdays-only and sometimes closes as early as 9.30pm: the point is to have the freedom to respond to special occasions. The pub will still have to apply to open outside normal pub hours for each specific occasion.
The Government has again dropped the idea of legislating to guarantee full pints, going back on the 1997 manifesto committment.
