Greene King Mild
The recent changes at The Portland Arms reported
elsewhere have meant the
loss (hopefully temporarily) of another outlet for Greene King's delicious XX
Mild. The number of pubs selling this under-rated brew locally is now down to
a handful - in Cambridge, The Free Press, The Green Dragon and
The Jenny Wren; in Ely The Prince Albert and in Willingham The Three Tuns.
Production of the beer was moved last year to Ridleys Brewery because volumes had
become too small for it to be worthwhile GK brewing it themselves.
Fortunately there was no loss of quality as a result - if anything, it's even
better - a rich, succulent, fruity ale much more full-bodied than its strength
would suggest. Try it whilst you can.
