Pubs and St George's Day

With Guinness's heavy promotion of St Patrick's Day and a more conscious 'Englishness' within society, more and more landlords want to make something of St George's Day (23rd April).

Licencing magistrates have been denying that the day is 'special', so landlords have had to resort to workrounds such as setting up special charity events to obtain licence extensions.

However, now pubs in Basingstoke and Tunbridge Wells have managed to persuade magistrates the day is special and to grant extensions.

With those precedents, perhaps many more pubs will succeed in their applications.
