We congratulate Landlord John Roos and his partner Karolin Rejniak for winning this year's award.

John was quoted in the Cambridge Evening News: "We're a proper, traditional pub with no television and no juke box. This is what pubs should be like and I think that's one of the reasons why we were chosen for this award. Our customers would say you can't get a better pint anywhere else."

He chooses to keep two beers well rather than gamble with more in such a small place: IPA and Abbot Ale. The pub has just two rooms and five tables, plus a garden.

Photographs of the pub and village decorate the walls, along with a complete list of landlords since 1767.

There has been a Blue Ball in Grantchester since the mid-18th century; the present pub dates from the end of the 19th century. The Blue Ball was a hot-air balloon flown from Trinity Hall Farm to Wickhambrook in 1785.

Food is available, although booking is advised (especially for Sunday lunch); no food Sunday evening or Monday. Children are discouraged. Being a proper Inn, accomodation is available.
