Martin and Donna "will continue to operate a total no-smoking policy, and the old tradition of
no gaming machines, pool table, dart board music or mobiles will be retained". With daily
newspapers on the bar, original décor, and open fireplace, the intention is for customers to
feel as comfortable as they do in their own home.
The "free press" theme will be augmented with assorted newspaper bric-a-brac, notably four typesetting trays, which customers are encouraged to fill with their own knick-knacks.
Links with the local community are being forged, for example lining up a school project with Parkside School, encouraging GCSE students in their practical arts courses by offering prizes for the best pub sign designs.
As well as the standard range of cask-conditioned ales, there is also a guest ale from GK's full range. A good selection of wines by the glass or bottle, personally selected by Martin, will also be available. A new range of quality bottled beers will further improve customers' choice at the bar.
As for the food, Donna draws on her hotel and catering background to offer a continually changing choice of fresh local seasonal produce, all at realistic prices.
