Queen's Head Silver
The Silver Anniversary edition of the Good Beer Guide, resplendent in its silver jacket, includes The Silver Collection - 23 pubs
which have featured in every edition since 1974. The Cambridge pub featured in this role of achievement is The Queen's Head,
Newton. A special silver plaque was presented to landlord David Short by CAMRA Regional Director Paul Ainsworth at the Anglian
launch of the Good Beer Guide held in the pub in mid-October.
The reputation for good beer spans three centuries. The pub became a coaching inn after starting life as a farm in the 17th
century. It came into the hands of the Short family in 1962 with David taking the reins in 1971. He is now one of Cambridge's
longest serving publicans. Changes are kept to a minimum: having happened upon Adnams beer about 30 years ago, there
was never a reason to change. It flows as deliciously today as it ever did.
