Good Beer Guide 1996
Thursday 19 October was the official date of the launch of the
1996 CAMRA Good Beer Guide
containing news of an astonishing 57 new breweries which have opened in the past year.
This comes on top of over 100 new breweries in the previous 3 years.
This growth is attributed to the huge interest the drinking public has shown in real ale in recent years, echoed in CAMRA
membership which now stands at 46,000 and in sales of the GBG, now over 70,000.
The lager bubble has burst and people are now seeking out good quality,
flavoursome beers. The established brewers have helped by launching exciting
seasonal brews to complement their standard range. The Guest Beer Law has
allowed publicans to offer the delights of some of the smaller producers.
