Cambridge & District CAMRA’s Gala Night 2014

Tuesday 15th April 2014

Press Release

On Tuesday evening brewers, publicans and other invited guests attended Cambridge & District CAMRA’s 2014 Gala Night from 8pm at the Hopbine, Fair Street, Cambridge.

Now in its third year, our Gala Night honours those who have helped make our branch area such a good place to be drinking in. Falling in the middle of CAMRA’s Community Pubs Month of April, what better time is there for such a celebration? We have over 200 pubs in our branch area and this is our way of turning the spotlight on some of the people who contribute so much to their variety and vitality.

This year’s winners are:
Cambridge & District CAMRA Pub of the Year The Chestnut Tree, West Wratting
LocAle Pub (Rural) The Carpenters Arms, Great Wilbraham
LocAle Pub (City) The Mill, Mill Lane, Cambridge
Community Pub (Rural) The Blue Ball, Grantchester
Community Pub (City) The Six Bells, Covent Garden, Cambridge
Most Improved Pub (Rural) The Three Horseshoes, Stapleford
Most Improved Pub (City) The Haymakers, High Street, Chesterton
Dark Beer Pub The Red Lion, Histon
Cider Pub The Carlton Arms, Carlton Way, Cambridge
Real Ale Champion Julian Huppert MP
Lifetime Achievement Award Mario Castiglione, The Maypole, Portugal Place, Cambridge

Ale Trails

As well as our Gala Night, we are again marking Community Pubs Month by running our Ale Trails through the whole of April and May. This year’s trails consist of 3 Ale Trails with 16 pubs on each plus (new this year) a Cider / Perry Trail with 16 pubs scattered across the three Ale Trails.

The Trails can be found in the latest edition of our ALE magazine and can also be downloaded from our website.

A Night at the White Horse Inn

In May, in partnership with the Museum of Cambridge (Castle Hill), there will be a special evening recreating the atmosphere, tastes and tales of the old White Horse Inn in which the museum is housed.

A Night at the White Horse Inn will take place on Thursday 15th May.
