Cambridge & District CAMRA : Manifesto for Saving Pubs

Tax on beer reduced or, at least, frozen. Excise Duty and VAT now account for one third of the cost of the average pint.
Reform of the large pub companies so that their tenants have a better chance of making a decent living (so keeping more pubs open)
Changes to planning law to give pubs better protection from demolition or change of use
Business rate relief for pubs which are centres of community life
Minimum pricing of alcohol so that pubs are better able to compete with supermarkets and other off-sales outlets.

All our Councils having planning policies in place which protect pubs
All our Councils using available planning laws to prevent pubs being changed to restaurants, shops and offices without needing planning consent
Our local MPs supporting our national campaigning objectives
Those responsible for promoting tourism locally also promoting our brilliant pubs
Pub companies and breweries who own local pubs allowing them to sell locally brewed beers
Above all, more local people visiting more local pubs more often.
