"We'll find a pub for you"
National Pubs Week 2004 Press Release
CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale, is running its second
National Pubs Week
from 21st to 28th February. The aims of Pubs Week are to celebrate
British pubs and to encourage more people to visit pubs.
The theme for this year's Pubs Week is "There's a Pub For You".
Britain is blessed with an incredible variety of pubs and CAMRA is convinced that, for
nearly everyone, there are pubs which suit their own personal tastes.
A problem of course is finding where those pubs are and this is where
CAMRA can help. The Cambridge CAMRA Branch is setting up a pub-finding
service for people living in its area.
Paul Ainsworth, Branch Pubs Officer, said "In the course of our campaigning
activities, we're obliged to visit all the pubs in our area (tough job etc)
and so have built up an encyclopaedic knowledge of the local pub stock. We're
offering to share that knowledge with anyone who is looking for a particular
kind of pub but having trouble finding it."
Examples of what people might be seeking include pubs which are:
- child/family friendly
- no smoking
- quiet and traditional
- youthful and vibrant
- specialising in a particular kind of food
- offering a particular beer or beers.
Mr Ainsworth said "If people want to tell me what they're looking for in a
local pub then I'll do my best to match their requirements to one or more of the
excellent hostelries we have in our area."
Paul can be contacted by:
- Phone: 01954 203230 (evenings/weekends).
- Email: jane.ainsworth@ntlworld.com (remove nospam)
Mr Ainsworth concluded by saying "Our hope is that this initiative will help
ensure that more people visit more of our local pubs more often. The British
pub is a wonderful institution and we want to see as many people as possible
enjoying it."
