County Pub of the Year 2004

The Coalheaver's Arms, Peterborough

Each branch which nominates a Pub of the Year usually participates in this annual competition and judges the Pubs of the Year of the other branches in the county.
This year the candidates were:

Cambridge & District: The Carlton Arms; Web site
Peterborough & District: The Coalheaver's Arms; Web site
Ely & District: The Prince Albert
Huntingdonshire & District: The Swan, Old Weston (west of Alconbury, off the A14); Multimap; Hunts CAMRA description

The winner was The Coalheaver's Arms, the first of the pubs owned by the small pubco associated with Milton Brerwery. (The other two so far are in North London.)

The next stage is the Regional Pub of the Year, with a similar voting process.

Each pub is visited by branch activists and scored on the following factors:

Quality of beer/cider/perry
Atmosphere/style/decor
Service/welcome
Clientele mix
Sympathy with CAMRA aims
Good value

Cambridgeshire: The Coalheaver's Arms, Peterborough
Essex: The Swan, Little Totham
Hertfordshire: The Strathmore Arms, St Pauls Walden
Norfolk: The Fat Cat, Norwich
Suffolk: The Victoria, Earl Soham
